This book was recommended to me by a librarian at Oesterle Library, and I wasn’t disappointed. I was pretty curious as I opened the first page. What effect can a very, very, very short story have? Apparently, a big one. The idea was inspired by Ernest Hemingway, who created the first “six-word story” (For sale: baby shoes, never worn). The purpose of the stories is to evoke enough thought to finish a much larger story in the reader’s brain. I can honestly say every single story in this book grabbed my attention, pulled my heartstrings, and really made me think. There are also some famous writers featured such as Joyce Carol Oates, Peter Straub, and Stephen Dunn. All in all, this was very satisfying reading experience and I highly recommend it to the curious reader. 

NCC Underground | Winter 2015

Thank you to all of the talented people who participated in last night's Underground! For those who missed this fantastic display of talent, there was quite a variety. We heard covers on guitar and piano, as well as an original song or two, and quite a few great authors! Speakers performed poetry, short fiction, spoken word, and monologues. We're hoping to see even more next term! Until then, keep up with the latest news on events and the Review!

30N presents: NCC Underground, an open mic night for verbal and musical performances.

This is not your mother's poetry reading - this is a convergence of talent in a place where you leave your inhibitions at the door. 

Read or perform your own original work, or a piece from an author or artist you really like. Recite poetry, sing a song, play guitar, give a speech, read an essay or short fiction. Just bring your creativity and your voice. 

Underground kicks off at 7:00 pm on Wednesday Week 5 (Feb 4) in the Boilerhouse basement. Refreshments will be provided.
